Book Club: The Only Good Indians by Stephen Graham Jones
The Only Good Indians (2020) by Stephen Graham Jones follows four Blackfeet men haunted by the vengeful spirit of an elk they killed years earlier. As the spirit seeks revenge, the men are forced to confront their past, cultural traditions, and choices in this gripping story of horror, identity, and guilt.

Book Club: An American Sunrise by Joy Harjo
An American Sunrise by Joy Harjo explores the history, displacement, and resilience of the Mvskoke people. Returning to her family鈥檚 ancestral lands, Harjo connects tribal history with memories of family, loss, and her own experiences. Through her poetry, she reflects on identity, survival, injustice, and the enduring connection between people, land, and ancestors.

Refuge: An Unnatural History of Family and Place by Terry Tempest Williams
Refuge (1991) by Terry Tempest Williams tells the story of her family and the environment. In the 1980s, as Utah鈥檚 Great Salt Lake began to flood, Williams learned that her mother and grandmother were seriously ill. While coping with their deaths, she also faced the loss of the Bear River Migratory Bird Refuge. The book explores the possible link between her family鈥檚 illnesses and her childhood exposure to nuclear fallout.

When Life Hands Steffany Sandolini Lemons, She Makes鈥asta Sauce! is a heartwarming middle-grade novel about Steffy, who turns to cooking to cope when her family changes after her dad returns home. As she navigates a challenging year, Steffy uses her love of food to bring herself鈥攁nd her family鈥攂ack together.

The Humanities Center at 麻豆影院 seeks to collect, curate, and cultivate the humanities for rural Nevada.
In August 2013, 麻豆影院 (麻豆影院) was awarded a $500,000 Challenge Grant by the National Endowment for the Humanities (NEH), one of the few colleges of its size to win such an award. The Grant provides the foundation of the Humanities Center at 麻豆影院 (HC@gbc) and its mission.
At the heart of the HC@gbc are the core skills and habits of mind which the humanities encourage and promote: critical and creative thinking, communication, technological understanding, and personal and cultural awareness.
Through the humanities, we seek greater cultural and historical understanding to demystify human difference, celebrate diversity, and build an engaged citizenry to enhance the well-being of rural Nevada.
By leveraging 麻豆影院's distance education experience and technology, the HC@gbc is providing humanities programming throughout our service area.
The HC@gbc uses an endowment-financing model for sustainable funding.
In addition to the grant, the HC@gbc has reached out to corporate and community partners to initiate an endowment fund for stable, long-term financing of operations.
As well as maintaining the technology infrastructure, archives, and a coordinator position, the endowment will support future humanities events and faculty- and student-generated content development.
