Is anyone else experiencing meeting fatigue, especially online? Youre not alone! They say introverts are especially susceptible. Harvard Business Review had a few suggestions to combat fatigue that I thought might be good to share: Avoid multitasking Build in breaks to stretch or rest your eyes. Reduce onscreen stimuli. Hide your camera view and use a plain background for others. Virtual social events should be opt-in events. Use Slack, Email, or phone calls instead. For external calls, avoid defaulting to video, especially if you dont know each other well. Ive included the link to the article in my written report if youd like to read the details: https://hbr.org/2020/04/how-to-combat-zoom-fatigue Leadership Council I attended the first Leadership Council meeting on September 24th and as you could probably surmise the final preparations for the accreditation were discussed as well as various updates from the membership of the council. The updates were familiar to faculty who have been attending the updates from the President or your division meetings. The only new information came from Vice President Rivera concerning a policy on protecting our veteran students from late fees and penalties due to Veteran Affairs payment delay. The following items were brought to LC from Septembers faculty senate meeting: 鶹ӰԺ Bylaws review discussion. My initial inclination last spring was to facilitate this process in the FS Bylaws committee but probably not an appropriate venue since it is a committee used to examine FS Bylaws alone. It was also mentioned that this could possibly be done as part of the Strategic Planning Committee. Discussion centered around logistics of this and ultimately determined it may not work well doing it as a subcommittee of this committee. We will most likely have to develop an entirely different committee to do this work. Compensation and Benefits. Discussion on committee progress for online multipliers, enrollment cap policy, and subbing policy. Committee had not met yet. General Education committee. Work on INT courses and making these upper division gen ed offerings transferrable. A draft proposal was proffered but the council agreed it would be better to have the final version to discuss. UPDATE: The committee chair, Dr. Walsh, myself, and Mary Doucette met this past week and agreed that we will need to wait with this document to see how it may fit with the new strategic plan. Strategic Planning Committee status. Vice President Rivera and I gave an update on this. Committee composition and members so far were presented. It was agreed that the committee would start after the accreditation visit. Council of Chairs Meeting with the Chancellor Council of Chairs met with the Chancellor on September 30th. The new Chancellor is very personable and comes from a faculty senate background at her last institution in Oregon. Here are a few highlights. She has been trying to reduce the meeting loads for everyone. No substantive talks are occurring with the frequent meetings. Chancellor sees the upcoming 2 budget years to be challenging and more cuts likely inevitable. The dynamics of the Budget Reduction Committee were discussed. We will have 3 chairs at the table: Bob Morin from WNC, Laura Nauman from NSC, and Vicki Rossier from UNLV. Looking at getting a seat for the system office too. Committee will try to meet with individual chairs to determine institutional needs. Curriculum conversations will be a focal point. The committee will meet after the election. The Chancellor met with the Governor to see if grant-funded positions could be exempt from furloughs. Governors office sees this as an equality issue even though those positions wouldnt save any money. #-.>?
