Strategic Planning Dr. Paul Killpatrick reported that the 鶹ӰԺ Strategic Plan was unanimously approved at the Board of Regents meeting in June. 鶹ӰԺ has established a draft one-year action plan, but we still need to prioritize the goals and attach who will be responsible. Since the faculty are gone for the summer, administration will meet to prioritize the goals and determine the responsible parties, and present to the department chairs for their input during fall in-service activities. Reynolds Grant for Branch Campuses Ms. Jeannie Rosenthal reported back to Presidents Council that she has confirmed with the Reynolds Foundation that 鶹ӰԺ can apply for a grant for the branch campuses that are located outside of the city of Elko. She stressed that any grant that we submit will not be as competitive because we have received a grant already. Her research shows that the Reynolds Foundation has not been granting funds to organizations they have already funded. The 鶹ӰԺ Foundation will continue to look into other revenue streams for the off-campus sites. Ms. Rosenthal recommends the best approach is to determine the needs within the communities and then find the appropriate funding sources. Shared Governance Document Item was deferred. Student E-Mail Accounts Mr. Jeff Cox presented procedures for students to use to change their email passwords. FERPA requires that a photo ID be presented at the time of the request. The student will fill out the request form and provide their 鶹ӰԺ email name, email address, or personnel email such as Yahoo or Hotmail if they have one. The new password and a step-by-step guide for resetting your password will be emailed back to the student. It is strongly recommended that the student change the password once they receive it. Presidents Council also discussed the legalities of backing up GroupWise. Mr. Diekhans reported that by backing up GroupWise, 鶹ӰԺ would be legally responsible for a number of things. After discussing the legalities and potential problems with the issue, Presidents Council recommended that 鶹ӰԺ not back up GroupWise for now. Mr. Cox will investigate what the other institutions are doing. Presidents Council agreed that the 鶹ӰԺALL, 鶹ӰԺFACULTY, and other email groups will only be accessible to employees. This will prevent the spam email from different countries that we have all be getting. These email groups will be taken off of the website. UCCSN Policy Children of Alumni Classification Ms. Lynn Mahlberg presented a handout explaining the Children of Alumni Classification. Children of alumni of the University of Nevada, Las Vegas, the University of Nevada, Reno, Nevada State College, or 鶹ӰԺ who reside outside of Nevada are eligible for a differential tuition rate under certain conditions: the parent must have earned a baccalaureate degree from UNLV, UNR, NSC, or 鶹ӰԺ; the child must enroll in the same university as his or her parent(s) to be eligible for the differential tuition rate; the differential tuition rate applies to undergraduate studies only. Students enrolling under the Children of Alumni classification will, in addition to registration fees, pay a tuition charge equaling an amount calculated by multiplying the registration fees times 60%. Miscellaneous Ms. Mahlberg reported that 鶹ӰԺ has four representatives attending the Womens Leadership Conference at UNLV: Margo Teague, Michele Urain, Patty Jones, and Ashley Hickey are attending along with Julie Smith. Dr. Elliott reported that 鶹ӰԺ hosted the UNR Solar Energy workshop yesterday. The workshop was interactive to and Arizona. Approximately 25 people attended in Elko. She stated that there are millions of federal dollars available for agencies who want to switch to solar energy. Pablo Cortez was present to insure that everything went smoothly. Dr. Elliott was told that it was the most successful energy workshop to date. The Course Taxonomy Report is due on June 23, 2004. Mr. Diekhans requested that Student Services run the focus report and forward to him and Garry Heberer for compilation. Ms. Summer Ehrmann reported that the Humboldt Executive Committee (HEC) was formed as an advisory group; therefore there are no foundation bylaws for this group. The HEC is meeting as the 鶹ӰԺ Foundation and are discussing foundation issues, which may pose a potential problem with the open meeting laws. The 鶹ӰԺ Foundation Executive Committee will meet to further discuss the issue. Mr. Erik Seastedt informed Presidents Council that the state is examining the computer information systems across the state in an effort streamline the systems used. This will result in an eventual change in the systems being used for HR functions, which ultimately will mean an effect on the budget. Dr. Killpatrick reported that the Elko High School Graduation Party was successful with none of the problems that they had last year.
